Best Affordable Restaurants in Colombo for 2025

Yes, places we’ve actually eaten at.

Colombo do be expensive sometimes. Sometimes it’s the end of the month and you just wanna eat out without spending big bucks. Or maybe you’ve got a strict budget like us, and whatever hail or rain may come, you’ve gotta stick to it. The economy is tough, I agree, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a night off from home-cooked meals once in a while. As someone who’s recently entered the workforce, I’m always very aware of prices. Eating out has to make sense. The good news is, Colombo has plenty of places that are genuinely affordable if you know where to look. Trust me, I KNOW. So here are our top 10 budget-friendly dinner spots across different cuisines, so you’ve got options no matter what you’re craving.

1. Pho Vietnam

For your Vietnamese fix. Pho Vietnam is hands down one of the best places for good, affordable Vietnamese food in Colombo. The flavours are authentic, the portions are generous, and everything feels comforting without being heavy. Having been to Vietnam myself, I can say they do a pretty solid job of staying true to the flavours

Recommendations: Beef stir-fried noodles, Vietnamese broken rice with BBQ pork, banh mi, coconut jelly, and their Vietnamese iced coffee.

2. Vito’s Wood-Fired Pizza

Colombo LKR 1,2000- 2,000 1–2 pax 5

For your pizza fix. When you want pizza that isn’t Pizza Hut or Domino’s, Vito’s is the answer. They started in Kandy and expanded to Colombo, and honestly, we’ve never seen this place empty. The pizzas are thin crust, full of flavour, and insanely affordable for what you get.

Recommendations: Quattro Stagioni and Pizza Pollo, though it’s hard to go wrong here

Pro tip: Go early on weekends unless you enjoy waiting

3. Epi-Q Express Gourmet

Colombo LKR 1,500–2,000 1–2 pax 5 Menu

For your Asian fusion fix. Best known for their mini pancakes, and yes, they live up to the hype. Epi-Q is a super chill hangout spot where you can easily have a full meal for under LKR 2,000. One standout dish is the Rotzza, which is basically a quesadilla but made with rotti and filled with spicy flavours like minced beef keema. It’s unreal. Their Kathi Roll, made with egg-coated chapati, mint chutney, onions, and coriander, is genuinely one of the best things we’ve eaten .

4. Taco Shack

Colombo LKR 2,000–3,000 1–2 pax 5
Open in Google Maps

For your Mexican fix. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a full-on taco girlie. My love for Mexican food comes from my time working as a chef in a Mexican restaurant in Tokyo, so trust me when I say Taco Shack lives up to the hype. The loaded nachos are a must. Thick, creamy cheese sauce, proper toppings, and meat done right. One surprise favourite was the polos taco, something we’d only tried down south before. They do a great job of giving Sri Lankan favourites a Mexican twist.

5. Qcumber by Colombo Mixologists

Colombo LKR 1,500–2,000 1–2 pax 5 Menu

For your cute café fix. Hidden away in Kohuwala, Qcumber was a very pleasant surprise. It’s a proper hidden gem with a lovely outdoor area, inviting decor, and reasonably priced food. The vibe is calm and cosy, perfect for catching up with friends or even doing a solo coffee date. Bonus points for charging ports if you want to work while you’re there.

6. The Cauldron

Colombo LKR 2,000–3,000 1–2 pax 5 Menu
Open in Google Maps

For your work-and-chill fix. The Cauldron is an iconic Colombo spot. It’s been around forever, and anyone who knows it, knows it. I personally remember coming here as a teenager with friends and family, so there’s a lot of nostalgia attached. The menu is interesting and slightly unconventional. Must-tries include the three-cheese pol roti kottu, smoked chicken pasta with karapincha, and the hodge podge bun with crunchy chicken and chilli jam. Power outlets near almost every table make it ideal for working too.

7. Grillos

Colombo LKR 2,000–3,000 1–2 pax 5
Open in Google Maps

For your Middle Eastern fix. We discovered Grillos while hunting for reasonably priced Middle Eastern food, and it did not disappoint. They do a fusion of Arabic and Mexican, and they do it well. Their OG Flaming shawarma tastes very authentic and comes with toum and fries inside. The Cajun cauliflower hummus bowl was a standout vegetarian dish, and the shawarma rotti platter is great for sharing. Portions are generous too.

8. Fusion Food Court, Dehiwala

Colombo LKR 1,500–2,000 1–2 pax 5
Open in Google Maps

Who says food courts are bad? If you look closely, they’re full of hidden gems and are super budget friendly One spot worth highlighting is Hell’s Shawarma and Grill. They do some of the best shawarmas for a very reasonable price. Packed with flavour, generous portions, and definitely satisfying. Try their hummus bowls too, they’re a real banger. Another place we loved here is Burgers to Mars. If you’re craving a proper beef burger, this one delivers. The patty is thick, well seasoned, and cooked just right, no sad dry burgers here. To wash it all down, 11:11 does refreshing drinks done right. Perfect if you want something light and cooling after all that food.

9. Holy Dumpling

Colombo LKR 2,000–4,000 1–2 pax 5
Open in Google Maps

For your dumpling fix. Holy Dumpling is easy to miss if you’re not paying attention, but it’s seriously underrated. Tucked inside a quaint little house, it’s perfect for a first date, any date, or just a relaxed hang with friends. The handmade dumplings are fresh, flavourful, and incredibly satisfying. We also tried their handmade noodles, which were cooked perfectly. The menu is small, but every item feels well thought out.

Side note: Try the bao buns and sweet potato fries if you can. Worth it.

10. We Ai Family

Colombo LKR 1,500–2,000 1–2 pax 5
Open in Google Maps

For your cheap Chinese fix. We Ai Family has become a comfort food staple for us. It’s relaxed, family friendly, and perfect for group dinners. The menu is extensive, and the food feels authentically Chinese. One interesting dish we tried was pork intestine. The texture isn’t for everyone, but the flavour was distinct and memorable. They also do cheap bubble tea. The chocolate bubble tea does something to me. For dessert, don’t miss their strawberry mochi. Soft, fresh, and genuinely one of a kind
